4

Tip:
Write questions the way your customers actually ask them, not in formal language. For example, "How do I reset my password?" is better than "Password reset procedure".

Best Practices

Writing Good Questions

  • Use natural language — Write questions as customers would ask them
  • Be specific — "How do I cancel my subscription?" beats "Cancellation"
  • Include variations — Add separate FAQs for different phrasings of common questions
  • Cover common queries — Start with your most frequently asked questions

Writing Good Answers

  • Be concise but complete — Include all necessary information
  • Use step-by-step format — For how-to answers, number the steps
  • Include links if relevant — Reference URLs or page names where users can take action
  • Keep answers current — Update when policies or processes change
Note:
Avoid putting multiple unrelated topics in a single FAQ answer. Each Q&A pair should focus on one specific question. This improves retrieval accuracy.

When to Use FAQs vs Other Content Types

  • FAQs — Best for direct questions with specific answers (pricing, policies, how-tos)
  • Documents — Best for detailed guides, manuals, and long-form content
  • Websites — Best for existing web content you want to index
  • Text Content — Best for quick snippets and frequently updated information
Tip:
Combine FAQs with other content types for best results. Use FAQs for common questions and Documents/Websites for in-depth knowledge.
